As some of you may be aware Telecast Fiber has developed a Copperhead system that works specifically with the Grass Valley Thomson Infinity camera. The product is called the Copperhead Infinity and is now in use in broadcast and production facilities around the world.
Recently, while paging through the September edition of TVTECHNOLOGY magazine I came across an article regarding the purchase of the Infinity cameras as well as the Copperhead Infinity systems by an events production company. Having spent sometime in the events production industry after leaving broadcast it occurred to me that this is a bold step forward for a company in the events production/video production business such as Heroic.
The company mentioned in the article is Heroic Productions and is written by Dustin Dancisak who is a staff engineer there and designs many of the projects for Heroic. Dustin's background prior to Heroic was in broadcast so he had a pretty good idea of the type of flexibility and production he would get by using the Copperhead Infinity along with his new cameras. Not only would the cameras provide exceptional images for the projection screens or other video content used in the events world but when using our Copperhead Infinity system would be a cinch to switch between ENG style shooting or using the camera on the tripod in a studio type setting.
The events production business at the higher end is really quite involved in regards to the video needs. There are many devices used for format conversion, aspect ratio, resolutions and projection or IMAG. The weak link in many instances isthe camera and the connection, which still in some cases is relying on multi-pin cables to connect the cameras to back of house. Using the Infinity system on a single lightweight fiber optic cable you'll have the ability to make use of bi-directional HD/SDI video, audio, intercom, genlock and full camera control from the base. No doubt an awesome set of tools to have access to when sending signals frombackstage up to the event control area.
As you will see in the TV TECHNOLOGY article written by Dustin he is pleased with the purchase of not only the cameras but with the Copperhead Infinity system as well and the increased capacity he now has.
Sounds like good choices all the way around.
Telecast FiberSystems will show its CopperHead INF camera-mounted fiber-optic transceiver for the Thomson Grass Valley Infinity camcorder at NAB. It enables use of the Infinity as both a camcorder and an HD-SDI production camera.
The compact CopperHead INF, which we previewed at IBC, fits between the Grass Valley Infinity camcorder and its battery, delivering bi-directional HD-SDI, composite video, audio, intercom, genlock and camera control between the Infinity camera head and the remote basestation over a single lightweight, battlefield-rated fiber optic cable. Optionally, remote powering of the camera is possible using SMPTE hybrid fiber cable. The 1 RU base station integrates easily into anystudio, mobile truck or portable flypack and plugs directly into the facility’s switcher, router, intercom and house sync systems.
