At NAB we recently announced that we will be supporting Neutrik's opticalCON connector, and that we're one of the few companies who will be making and supplying the cable assemblies. Neutrik has rigorous standards for its opticalCON suppliers, and we're proud to have been selected to manufacture assemblies with their connectors. We will also be offering our fiber optic video and audio systems, such as our CopperHead and Viper systems, with the opticalCon.
Why? We see the Neutrik design as a versatile connector platform at an affordable price, and this is what is needed to continue driving the cost of fiber down in today's HD camera systems. Using the same opticalCon on our new generations of CopperHeads, these systems can be powered by battery, connected with Tac-2 or Tac-4 non-metallic battlefield cable (or single-mode infrastructure fiber) one day, and then be powered from the base station up a SMPTE hybrid cable the next. We've even developed a lower cost "power wafer" adapter for the Grass Valley Infinity DMC CopperHead that takes advantage of the electrical capabilities of the opticalCON using hybrid fiber/wire cables.
