The session, "Remote Sports Video: Using Robotic Cameras for the Spectacular Shot," examined the use of robotic cameras and their increasing popularity in the industry. Hurwitz addressed the operational aspects of using robotic cameras in sports applications, including the handling of multiple signal requirements (video, audio, data, etc.), methods for simplifying cabling, and how to multiplex signals on a single fiber cable for increased reliability and easier handling.
“Broadcasters and production experts have found fiber optics to be the most practical solution for digital POV cameras and it is being used by leaders across the sports production industry,” explains Hurwitz. “Because of its light weight and ease of deployment, fiber allows cameras to be used in applications and at locations previously not possible.”
With more than 24 years of industry experience, Hurwitz has been responsible for the definition and development of Telecast’s CopperHead™ product line, a widely used fiber optic multiplexing system that fits on the back of a portable digital or analog camera. Hurwitz manages the company’s relationships with the world’s leading camera manufacturers, as well as broadcasters, sports venues, and the emerging Hollywood Electronic Cinema marketplace, and is responsible for Telecast’s sales, support and marketing efforts in the Western United States.
The C4-Sports Electronic Media and Technology Show focuses on the critical components of sports technology, and the extensive FMC conference featured cutting-edge technical sessions and panel discussions designed to allow sports media production professionals to share and learn techniques specific to the sports television production environment.
