"It happens rarely, but, every once in a while a rookie comes along and makes a big splash in a sport. Thompson International Speedway’s Sunoco Modified Rookie driver Woody Pitkat of Stafford, CT has done just that and has captured the imagination of the regions race fans with his incredible talent and his assent into the chase for the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division IV championship.
"Pitkat began his racing career at age 16 driving D.A.R.E. stocks. After two years in that division, he moved up to Late Model competition. He soon gained a reputation as a fun-loving driver who had purple or green hair and drove brightly colored racecars. The nickname of “Neon” Woody soon stuck and Pitkat played the part very well. In 1999 he signed up at the Finish Line Racing School in Florida and went on to win two Late Model features that year. He would go on to add a Thompson Speedway Late Model Championship in 2002 with two wins and 13 finishes in the top ten. In 2003 he finished 5th and came within eighteen points of a second Late Model championship in 2005. This year he moved to the Sunoco Modified division in the Hitchcock car with veteran Crew Chief, Jimmy Fuller." -- Russ Dowd, www.whowon.com
