Telecast Works With JVC to Supply Plug-and Play Fiber Interface for Revolutionary GY-HD250U HD Camcorder
WORCESTER, Mass. — Jan. 9, 2007 — Telecast Fiber Systems today announced that it has successfully interfaced the new JVC GY-HD250 HD camcorder with the Telecast CopperHead™ camera-mounted fiber optic system. This revolutionary combination is expected to bring professional quality, at an unmatched price point, to HD studio acquisition and other fixed and mobile applications.

The GY-HD250U provides broadcast-quality HD acquisition and robust performance in a compact and ergonomic design. Introduced at NAB2006, the GY-HD250 features 720/60p capture and recording for on-the-shoulder electronic newsgathering or, with the KA-HD250 adapter, use as a studio camera. The GY-HD250 also offers real 24p and 30p acquisition for digital cinematography.
A built-in HDV recording system records HD video on MiniDV cassettes or an optional DR-HD100U hard-disk recorder. But it is the camera’s uncompressed HD SDI output, combined with built-in genlock capability and external time code synchronization that make it the perfect camcorder for dual-purposing into a fully featured studio or EFP camera for multicamera studio, mobile truck or flypack applications.

Telecast’s CopperHead camera-mounted fiber optic transceiver fits on the back of the GY-HD250 and transmits HD/SDI video to its base station, as well as video audio, intercom, and camera-control data in both directions, all over a single fiber cable. The system also transmits genlock, time code and tally to the GY-HD250 for full “live” capability. All of these signals are carried transparently, over distances that can exceed five kilometers, via lightweight, robust mil-spec “tactical” fiber cable or industry-standard SMPTE 311M “hybrid” cable.
“With its high quality and very appealing price point, JVC’s GY-HD250 promises to carve out a new niche within the HD market, and the plug-and-play fiber interface we provide adds to users’ ability to do so much more for so much less,” said Richard Cerny, president of Telecast Fiber Systems
