WORCESTER, Mass. — Sept. 11, 2009 — At IBC2009 Telecast Fiber Systems is introducing its newest personality interface for the SHED™ (SMPTE hybrid elimination device) and HDX™ units supporting the Hitachi SK-HD1000 camera. The SHED adapters allow production crews using the SMPTE fiber-ready Hitachi camera to replace hybrid optical fiber/copper cabling with low-cost single-mode fiber while the HDX units provide the ability to power the camera remotely . The SHED-HDX family reduces the bulk and expense associated with hybrid cabling and extends the distance capabilities of the camera.
“The Telecast SHED-HDX system is a perfect example of the type of best-of-breed technology that we are looking for as we offer value-added solutions to our HD camera customers,” said Cemal Yilmaz, sales and marketing manager for Hitachi’s Broadcast and Professional Video unit. “Now, our customers have even greater flexibility in setting up remote shoots and choosing the cabling that will best suit their needs.”
The Hitachi SK-HD1000 is the latest high-end HD camera to be supported by the SHED/HDX combination, which enables long-distance communications between the camera and base station via two single-mode fibers. On the base station side, the small SHED device interfaces with the CCU via hybrid cable. Two single-mode fibers then link to the HDX unit at or near the camera location, safely powering the camera head on up to 1,000 meters of SMPTE hybrid cable.
